Everybody should believe in something.
I believe I'll have another coffee.

| IF A GREAT WAVE SHALL FALL AND FALL UPON US ALL CANON PERSONALITY Komui Lee is a person that seems to be sitting precariously between two extremes. At first glance, he doesn't really seem to be much of a man, pretty much painting himself as a good-for-nothing, lazy, dunder-headed idiot with a enormously massive sister-complex, with a genius that is more mad than it is remotely helpful. And, really, he does very little to negate these primary assumptions, nor does he care to try. He is hardly neat, for one, preferring to keep his environment so chaotic it's a wonder that he can find anything, [seeming] to rely solely on the continued hard work of his co-workers, subordinates, or what have you to keep things running. However, if one bothers to hang about and look past the quirky, eccentric side of him, they would find a very dedicated, hardworking man who is hell-bent on ending the war, seeing himself as one of the Exorcists' few defenses against an Order that tends to see each individual as nothing more than a pawn to be used in the name of its religion. In these times, he shows himself to be as serious, calm, and intelligent as a person of his considerable rank should be: a level-headed leader ready to take action and do whatever needs to be done to solve the problem at hand, considering every route and option available. In-between this veritable Gemini of two extremes, his normal every-day persona, when he's not being a crazy melodramatist (usually in consequence to something dealing with his sister, or his inventions) or in major "supervisor mode," he usually borders on a chaotic balance of a lighthearted sort of normality that takes on more of the traits on the first side of the extreme than the second. When it comes to reacting to change, it would depend solely on the situation. In most, he'd make light of the situation to some extent, and perhaps not look bothered by it at all, especially once he became acclimated to the situation over a long period of time, though he would secretly internalize his worry and keep it more to himself. In more serious situations, such when HQ was invaded, he'd keep a level head and try to manage the situation. The man also has many loves, one of the foremost of which is his ridiculous addiction to coffee, as well making a stash of bizarre inventions (the most infamous of which being his robotic, and often destructive synthetics he calls Komurin) that tend to malfunction more often than not. He also likes to sew, believe it or not, and it likely at least somewhat responsible for some of the wardrobe changes throughout the series. If his love for coffee and his little oddball inventions were to be trumped by anything, it would be his love and complete (often ridiculously obsessive) devotion towards his younger sister, Lenalee, whom he seems to have an almost "psychic" connection with at times. There is nothing that matters to him more than his little sister's happiness and well-being. Anything that happens to or has to do with Lenalee interests him, and he tends to be more than "just a little" protective of his sibling. With that said, suitors beware, because you'll have an insane man for a brother-in-law with a drill he absolutely knows how to use, if he doesn't kill you before the wedding first. |
| WELL, I HOPE THERE'S SOMEONE OUT THERE WHO CAN BRING ME BACK TO YOU CANON HISTORY Born in China during the world's version of the 1800's into what were likely rather troubled times, Komui lived in a small family consisting of only his parents and his younger sister Lenalee. It can be assumed they lived a fairly normal life for his first nineteen years in existence, before he and his sister were abruptly made orphans after their village was invaded and subsequently massacred by demons known as akuma. It was not long after this that the two siblings were separated from one another, thanks the arrival of of a team of exorcists sent by the Black Order, an organization run by the manga's version of the Christian church. Whether they were sent to investigate the site of the attack, or happening upon the ruined village by chance is unknown, but for whatever the reason, the investigating team found Lenalee to be compatible with an unique weapon known as Innocence: the only tool found to be able to destroy and purify akuma. As she was discovered to be a conformer, she was forcefully taken away from Komui, and taken back to one of the Order's branches to be trained as an exorcist for the church in order to fight the infamous Earl of the Millennium and his numerous Noah and akuma servants. During the next arduous few years, Komui worked and studied obsessively as he tried to work his way back to his sister's side, finding his way back into her life the only way he knew how: by joining the Order itself. He finally managed to do so three years later, joining the Order as a member the Science Division. (This was most likely in the Asian branch of the Order located in China, though it never states where.) As the years passed, he slowly climbed the Order's proverbial ladder and found himself as the Supervisor/Director the Black Order, now stationed at its European Headquarters, where he somehow manages to fulfill his duties despite his slothful tendencies. Things went more or less as usual as the next seven years flew by (or as usual as life could be had in the Order during such times), until the exorcist Allen Walker was admitted into the Order, sent on the request of the boy's master and fellow member of the Order, General Cross. From then forward, things began to undergo rapid and drastic change. The Earl began to increase his attacks on the exorcists, already strained due to their low numbers and the growing number of akuma around the world, as both sides increased and continued on their desperate search to be the first to locate The Heart—the most important piece of all the 109 Innocence in existence—and its conformer, as such a piece would result in a critical turning point for either side in the war. Throughout the the manga, Komui is usually confined to a behind-the-scenes role as the main cast moves forward. During the many chapters following, the other exorcists (minus Allen for the first bit, due to some events that occurred in China, though he rejoins later on) traveled to the Earl-ruled Japan in order to track down the ever-elusive General Cross. In so doing, the Exorcists were able to not only locate Cross, but, after a good deal of effort, take the fabled Noah's Ark into their possession. Upon the main cast's return to headquarters, Komui is finally dragged back into the spotlight as he deals with the return of general cross, the capture of the ark, and worries revolving around Allen and the fourteenth Noah. The headquarters is soon joined by an important man by the name Leverrier, an Inspector who claims to have business to attend to, and puts Allen under constant supervision. Not long after said inspector's arrival, headquarters soon finds itself under attack by forces sent by the Earl in a desperate attempt to reclaim the "Egg" that was taken from the Ark. As the situation becomes more desperate, Komui orders the Egg to be destroyed, as well as ordering an impromptu evacuation of headquarters after the birth of a Level 4 akuma. His order to evacuate is soon rescinded as the tide begins to change, and despite barely winning the battle, the akuma is vanquished and the Egg is successfully destroyed. However, the assault left the Order in broken shambles, with the location now compromised. As such, Komui and the rest of the cast is forced to move the headquarters to a new location. There, Komui finds himself face-to-face with two entirely new problems: one regarding the legacy that a certain Noah left behind, as the other concerning the aftermath of a certain general's actions that will prove to make the ever-deepening war a very hard cross to bear indeed. |
